Headline pedants v. hyperbolic aspies

"Now that the term Asperger’s has been abandoned as a medical term "

In the United States. Not elsewhere. And partially for political reasons.

In some areas funding was available for children with aspergers, and adults with autism, but not the other way around. Or only the other way around. Or some other strange combination. So the docs behind the DSM sent a pox on both their houses, and merged.

There’s differences. I have an autistic spectrum condition, but I am not autistic. I am not high-functioning autism. I’m an Aspie.

But on the plus side, “autism” doesn’t get pronounced with an ‘r’ that isn’t there.
