That’s because your Dad (or someone before him) modded that Timex into a custom case with a real keyboard. It was a pretty common thing to do back then since the default keyboard was garbage. The usual choice was to use the keyboard from a TI99/4A since it was reasonably priced (for a mechanical keyboard), and had a similar number of keys to the original Timex one, could be bought separately for repair purposes, and wasn’t too difficult to modify to work the the Timex/ZX.
