That was the scenario. I spent most of 1986 guarding some of the tactical nukes (artillery grenades) that would have been used.
BTW, the Red Team’s scenario included their ground troops having to reach the North Sea/Channel coasts within a week, tops - the thinking behind this being the assumption that by the end of that week the troops would be unfit for fighting due to radiation sickness.
The good old days, indeed.
