How one chemist does her research, even though her lab makes her sick

It’s surprising to me that she doesn’t sometimes also use a respirator / full face mask with appropriate filters. Those things are generally available in university chemistry departments, in case someone needs to work with universally unpleasant compounds like HCN, nickel tetracarbonyl or what have you. And in her case providing unlimited access to them would clearly fall into the realm of reasonable accommodation.
