If something is racist, and it’s called out it’s not an insult or an attack, especially not the same way structural racism has hurt (and continues to do so) POC over the centuries. If the policy or the candidate in question is racist, then it’s a statement of fact, not a slur.

I agree 100% and think that this is at its core is where the weirdness of this discussion’s coming from. Pointing out instances of racism might be seen as a slur or an insult, but that’s a totally wrong-headed way to look at it.
