Holy crap, that entire op-ed sounded like one of Trump’s Truth Social rants. She’s just confidently stating completely imagined motivations of everyone involved as if they are known facts.

I know the op-ed was written before the convention started, but it’s super clear now that the unity in the party is sincere. These people just cannot imagine that there are politicians who might do things like setting aside their own personal ambitions to do what’s best for the country.

The party primary and candidate nomination process is not in the Constitution. These are entirely internal party activities to decide who gets to put a (D) or an (R) next to their name on the ballot. Anyone who was born in this country and is at least 35 can still run for President. If Gavin Newsom really, desperately wanted to run for President, he could have. If the parties wanted to determine their candidate by rolling a D20, they could do that. If they wanted to determine it by having the contenders play a round robin Risk tournament, they could do that. If they wanted to randomly select their candidate from voter registration rolls, they could do that. What happened on January 6, 2021 was an attempted coup. What happened a month ago was not.
