Politicians have lots of reasons for “supporting the troops”, few of which actually support the troops. Reagan x2, Bush x1, Clinton x2, Bushx2, Obama x2… Plenty of power held in Congress by either side for extended periods. They’ve had ample time in the previous two generations to make the veteran’s administration lush with funding.
Politicians “support the troops” to shame pacifists and win elections. The best way to support the troops is to never send them to fight unless it is absolutely necessary.
