Every time there’s a ship-to-ship combat in The Expanse, these things start firing fifty to the dozen. I’m assuming there’s some benefit to them, at least in-story.
Actually, I can’t remember any ranged weapon in the series that wasn’t a projectile weapon of some sort (including nukes and cloaked asteroids). But I haven’t seen the final season yet (nor read any book except the first).
