The bird isn’t thinking that far ahead (as far as we know), it’s more about genes and hardwiring. Evolutionary a tricky field, and anthropomorphizing can get you the wrong answer. If you’d like an analogy, smoking, driving fast cars, having tuberculosis, getting into bar fights, are all things not associated with overall longevity, fecundity or health, but for some people, at some times, they seem/seemed sexy. So not sure why Klingons would have less wacky behavior than Humans.
