Israel versus Palestine, Lebanon, aid workers, and journalists. 2023-24 misery and horror continues

Wasn’t this another story that was questioned as to it’s veracity, the use of white phosphorus?

Israel wants 1.1 million people in north Gaza to leave in next 24 hours - UN

The Israeli military has told the UN that everyone living north of Wadi Gaza should relocate to southern Gaza in the next 24 hours, says a UN spokesperson.

The UN says this amounts to approximately 1.1 million people - about half the population of the entire Gaza Strip. The affected area includes densely populated Gaza City.

The alert was given just before midnight, Gaza and Jerusalem time (23:00 GMT).

“The United Nations considers it impossible for such a movement to take place without devastating humanitarian consequences,” the UN said in a statement.

Israel has been preparing for a ground offensive, gathering soldiers, heavy artillery and tanks on the border of Gaza. It has been launching airstrikes on Gaza since Saturday after Hamas militants’ surprise attack on Israel.

Looks like students are going to be blacklisted.

At Harvard, there was continued fallout from a letter issued over the weekend by a coalition of student groups holding Israel “entirely responsible” for the violence. On Tuesday, Bill Ackman, a prominent hedge fund manager, said that some chief executives had asked for a list of members in the student organizations, to ensure that “none of us inadvertently hire any of their members,” he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Though it seems some groups retracted

Indeed, as the extent of the atrocities became clearer, some student groups retracted their signatures on Wednesday. The Harvard Undergraduate Ghungroo issued a formal apology; the Harvard Undergraduate Nepali Student Association expressed “regret,” and said that 10 Nepali students in Israel were among the civilians killed, and the Harvard Islamic Society said that it condemned “any attacks in which civilian victims pay the price.”

And this is particularly disturbing

Israel tells UN to evacuate the northern Gaza Strip within 24 hours
The Israeli Ministry of Defense and the IDF notified the UN just before midnight local time that Palestinians living north of Wadi Gaza should evacuate to the southern part of the Gaza Strip in the next 24 hours, according to UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric and another source with direct knowledge.

To be clear, the Israelis polled seem to be blaming Netanyahu for lack of preparedness for the Hamas attack, not for his government’s policies toward Gaza. Nonetheless, Netanyahu is very unpopular right now.

Aid group says Israeli plan to relocate 1.2 million Palestinians is a war crime

Oliver Holmes

The Norwegian Refugee Council, which works in Israel and Palestine, has described Israel’s demand that 1.2 million people in Gaza leave their homes as a war crime.

Jan Egeland, Secretary General of the Norwegian Refugee Council, released the below statement

“The Israeli military demand that 1.2 million civilians in northern Gaza relocate to its south within 24 hours, absent of any guarantees of safety or return, would amount to the war crime of forcible transfer. It must be reversed.

“The collective punishment of countless civilians, among them children, women, and the elderly, in retaliation for acts of horrible terror undertaken by armed men is illegal under international law.

“My colleagues inside Gaza confirm that there are countless people in the northern parts who have no means to safely relocate under the constant barrage of fire.

“The loss of civilian lives caused by deliberate or indiscriminate use of force is a war crime for which the perpetrators will have to answer. We fear that Israel may claim that Palestinians who could not flee northern Gaza can be erroneously held as directly participating in hostilities, and targeted.

“The United States, the UK, the European Union, and other Western and Arab Nations who have influence over the Israeli political and military leadership must demand that the illegal and impossible order to relocate is immediately rescinded.”

The Israeli military claims the order to Palestinians “is for your own safety”.

Moving 1 million people from one end of Gaza to another is insane.

Can anyone imagine a wartime movement of ALL the inhabitants of LA or Philli from one side to the other? With no food, water, medical supplies, shelter, etc…

Calling it a “relocation” is a bit of a stretch… it’s ethnic cleansing.

The Norwegian Refugee Council uses the term “forcible transfer”. The Fourth Geneva Convention prohibits “individual or mass forcible transfers”.
