Italian hospital needed an $11K part for its ventilators, volunteers 3D printed them at $1 each, original manufacturer threatened to sue

I came back to delete my post that was based on incorrect premise the $11000 price was the one they had to spend for certification and to making the mould, and they’re givin the part for free to hospitals, but because the bould is expensive to manufacture they can only make a tiny percentage or the parts needed

Reading the update, it seems more like a support guy at the company was saying “I can’t share it, I don’t have the authorisation and you could get sued if you started making bootleg parts.” Good on the followup for clearing up this incident of Telephone/Chinese Whispers/However you call the game.
