It was described as a dismal science by Carlyle. But nobody ever said it had to be a dismal science. Trouble is … well, economists these days really are dismal, relying on assumptions about the rational actor and so on.
I assumed you did know about “dismal science” and were choosing your words very carefully (pedantically?). That’ll teach me!
