My theory is they used bird DNA when they were doing the dinos originally, back in the 90s, and when all the coelurosaurs (tyrannosaurs, raptors, and relatives) turned out feathered, they said, “Whoops, too much bird DNA” and went with other things so they could get the ‘proper’ scaly, lizard-like dinosaurs.
