Kyrgyzstan's World Nomad Games: Yurt-building, headless goat polo, horseback wrestling, and hunting with eagles

Also noticing that many of the grappling sports are very similar:

  • Qazaq kuresi - basically judo with shorter sleeves on the jacket and no ground-fighting
  • Ashyrtmaly Aba Gureshi - jacket/belt wrestling with no ground-fighting
  • Alysh - belt wrestling where your grip on your opponent’s belt doesn’t ever change. No ground-fighting.
  • Koresh - belt wrestling with no ground-fighting
  • Kuresh - basically identical to judo with no ground-fighting

Since they’re all Turkic peoples descended from or related to the nomadic peoples of the central Asian steppe, I suppose it shouldn’t be too surprising. I’m a little surprised there isn’t Bokh, the Mongolian traditional jacket wrestling as well.
