More and more I find myself rooting for the bad guys in stories like this.

The sad part is when I was typing this I thought it might take more clarification in that regard.

Whether or not they pay the ransom, they still need to spend millions of dollars doing what would have cost them thousands of dollars up front. Unless they’re intending to just pay $1M to the next guy, and $2M to the one after that, and so on.
