I saw The Cure last year and they performed some new stuff. It was great. What really stuck with me (among many things, like the cheap tickets, cheap merch, and nearly 3 hour performance) was how Robert looked genuinely thrilled and humbled to be there and performing. He would slowly walk from one side of the stage to the other just basking in the crowd reaction. I mean, just look at his face:
He even took gifts from fans, which is rare.
I’ve been to so many shows where the performers clearly don’t want to be there and/or are just going through the motions. It filled me with so much joy to see Smith looking so happy. His apparent appreciation made me feel appreciated as a fan that spent good money to be there.
