In PA, I’ve noticed those signs have changed a lot over the past few years. New crosswalk signs are now facing cars on both sides of the road. Some have pressure or button-activated flashing lights overhead or on the yield signs to get traffic to stop. I guess enforcement is increasing, even though this has been a problem for decades. I still see drivers ignoring pedestrians and it’s worse when it involves kids walking in school zones.
