I recognize that there is no universally accepted convention stating such, but I teach an Information Design class and we use the following terminology for clarity in the context of class discussions:
Information = True and important/relevant
Uninformation = Probably not untrue, probably not important, possibly interesting
Noninformation = Possibly true, possibly false, probably not important, possibly confusing
Misinformation = Definitely not true
Disinformation = Deliberately untrue, used to mislead
So by this convention, people spreading Qanon rumors would be an example of “misinformation” (if they believed them to be true) or “disinformation” (if they knew the conspiracy theories were false but spread them maliciously to hurt the political opposition)
