80 years or propaganda about communism, that’s why. I’ve lived in Canada and the US for 25 years each, and the difference is stark. Canadians believe healthcare is a fundamental human right. Americans think any form of social program whatsoever is evil evil communism (and now they’ve rebranded the word “socialism” for this same purpose). What it boils down to is that they don’t know what they are missing, because 99.9% of Americans have never experienced single payer healthcare. My American friends are dumbfounded when I tell them I had never seen a credit card machine in a doctors office before I came here, and how weird that felt.
