Depending on what she said, there may not have been anything false about it. “I think he’s kidnapping them” would be true, she thought that was true.
In the UK we have an offence “wasting police time”, which is aimed at exactly this sort of thing. Now it’s unlikely she’d have actually been charged for a first offence, but they’d definitely have threatened to charge her, and generally given her a talking to.
(“Did you know that if you’re charged with wasting police time you can be sentenced with up to six months in jail madam?”, carefully not saying if she is being charged, just leaving the possibility open…)
