Manbabies react to announcement that a black woman is the new 007

She’s going for broke researching her next role as a hetero white woman, finally!

Even Daniel Craig’s Bond was a breath of fresh air to me with his rough edge and broken personality - he injected some much needed humanity and emotion into the character that hadn’t been seen since Lazenby’s Bond portrayal.

I’ve never claimed neutral.

At this point I’m starting to sound like Zapp Brannigan. “these filthy neutrals disgust me, @anon59592690. With enemies you know where you stand. But with the neutrals, who knows? It… Sickens me.”

“what makes a man turn centrist? Lust for gold? Power? Or werr they just born with a heart full of centrality?”

The original Casino Royale had seven James Bond’s- including David Niven, Peter Sellers and Woody Allen as Jimmy Bond.

And Peter O’Toole in a dream sequence playing a bagpipe and wearing a kilt.

It would have been more daring if they revealed that James Bond was always a woman in a man’s body, but she finally came out as trans, and can now be her fully actualized self.

Nah - if it was revealed that he was always a trans guy.

Ah, the Storyteller’s Art (If I could use an olde-English typeface here, I would) Of course, from the POV of “the storyteller’s art”, you could do anything, up to and including making 007 an octopoid alien.
Which, you know… interesting?

Wait, stop this, someone was going to Explain A Thing from the point of view of the Storyteller’s Art, and you all keep butting in.

“Doesn’t count, it’s not canon!!1!one!” the manbabies will scream. (Because clearly canon and logic are super important in a series where all the characters are constantly swapped out and retooled and any semblance of a timeline is mostly suggested.)

Honestly, I’m pretty disappointed in this, but only because I was really really excited to see one of my favorite actors, Idris Elba, in the role.

Crikey.

If this was comic books we would get alternate universe Bond’s. Think of the possibilities:

Maori Bond
Canadian Bond
Secret D&D nerd Bond
Steampunk Bond
Caveman Bond

Of course it’s canon- it even has a Herb Albert theme song. How could any movie from the 60’s with Herb Albert be questionable

Someone could always make a big-budget Luther movie instead.

Much as I am heartened (and entertained) by this, part of me still hankers for a more-or-less faithful, period-set adaptation of the books (possibly on TV rather than in cinema), with Bond as the antihero he is clearly written as rather than the hero Fleming believed he was writing. While the derring-do aspects of Bond are taken from the men Fleming wanted to be – the swashbuckling commando types whose exploits Fleming got to hear about while stuck behind a desk in Naval Intelligence – the base character is clearly just Fleming himself, a lecherous, hard-smoking, functioning alcoholic, with a social insecurity manifested in an obsession with material signs of status, and a sense of ennui bordering on nihilism. Set against the backdrop of post-war Britain, playing down the imperial nostalgia and playing up the air of a great power in decay, it could be quite gripping, in an unsettling way. A bit like A Handful of Dust, but with more guns.

A patriotic British version of Patrick Bateman, you say?

Well, if we’re having songs, this one seems appropriate:

In case there is trouble, or we’re under attack-
Have no fear, because Bond is black.

Depending on one’s definition of “the original Casino Royale.”

Looking at this thread - apparently I liked Daniel Craig as 007 a lot more than other people. I thought that Casino Royale was a solid resurrection of the series.

Most of us seem to care more about the announcement than the man baby reaction.

I hope the writing is good. I do wonder if they will do anything with continuity or just drop her in like the previous 007 changes.
