I find that depressing. In a jury trial, you wouldn’t know when the verdict was coming, because you wouldn’t know for sure when the jury would have reached a definite conclusion or what it would be.
It sure sounds like this is just a procedural matter of deciding when to announce the guilty verdict that was decided from before the trial.
