Those mortality numbers are totally different from the general data around breastfeeding and are likely capturing far more variables than breastfeeding vs bottlefeeding alone.
I’m sure you didn’t mean it this way but your comment could be read as stating bottle feeding is endangering your childs life in general. (Thus this comment is more directed at the idea than you personally)
Mothers are under increadible stress in the best of situations and many have challenges with breastfeeding. Just look at how utilized lactation specialists and milk banks are in stable environments. I cant even imagine what a Mom in a camp is going through.
The general recomendation (and one promoted in Canadian hospitals) is that yes breast milk is the best option if you can. But for the Mothers who can’t, bottle feeding is not putting your child at risk.
The main takeaway for me is that the refugeee camps are completely inadequately funded to adequatly support Mothers.
We should not put any more pressure on Moms, but rather put pressure on the system that isn’t providing the support needed.
Moms get too much blame and not enough respect already, lets not put any more on them.
