Microsoft's AI blunder: inappropriate poll sparks public outrage

This is one of those “well, what did they think would happen?” moments.

There’s no excuse for this on Microsoft’s part. They know that generative AI is likely to do random and sometimes inappropriate things. Letting a generative AI system create content on public-facing pages is asking for trouble. They can only be thankful that it wasn’t much, much worse.

I suspect that there are some interesting company internal memos flying around right now, and that whoever thought this was a good idea has been given the opportunity to discuss the matter further with some extremely senior people in Microsoft’s legal department.
