Minneapolis ablaze after prosecutor suggests no crime was committed by cops who killed George Floyd

Hmm, there does seem to be a difference in the group confronting them. Wish I could put my finger on it…

As for Covid spreading, and social distancing while your world is burning: I know a Hobson’s choice when I see it.

The one kind of union that really does need to have its power broken, is the police union. As long as they are in place with their current influence, there will be no police accountability, no matter what kind of cosmetic rule changes are enacted, or civil lawsuits paid out.

The time to get your police force in line, is before a global pandemic, but here we are.

And I for one as a veteran and my spouse who is also a veteran AND a psychologist who specifically deals with PTSD and trauma, AND who happens to be a woman of color are terrified every damn day our 3 kids walk out the door that THIS is the day a supposedly “good” cop who doesn’t take steroids, never served in the military, and has no signs of any PTSD will show themselves to be a racist POS who puts a knee to our son’s neck, or shoots our daughter as she reaches for her purse.

But ya know…let’s just throw everyone into one big bucket and paint everyone with broad strokes. Because why the fuck not.

I suppose I could say “Citation required” but we know where that will lead.

We need to reform current definitions handed down from the Supreme Court if we are to make any progress.

I can certainly believe that racist, violent, “tough guys” with a power/authority complex will be attracted to steroids, and that steroids will make matters worse, but it is not causation.

Solidarity from local businesses. If you need a book during this pandemic, maybe give Moon Palace a look (their website is in the radical.town toot) instead of relying on Amazon. They do mail orders.

No one is saying it is. It’s merely another symptom. As is “militarization”, without military discipline. It’s all part of institutional racism; that’s what makes it institutional, after all. Racism doesn’t exist in a vacuum; there’s a whole structure that feeds into it, from “The Thin Blue Line” to white supremacy/racism to drug use to military weapons/tactics…

It’s all undeniably part of the same horrifying system.

Chauvin is in custody.

There damn well needs to be more than one arrest. Every cop nearby is at the very least suspect.

Except, that is precisely what @stinkyfoot said:

Most excessively violent police behavior can be easily explained with steroids abuse.

YOU aren’t, but @stinkyfoot’s original post strongly implied it with their opening line:

Aside from that line, I thought @stinkyfoot has an interesting comment. I’ve taken steroids briefly for medical reasons. Anyone who wants to take them to be more “manly” should not be in any position of authority.

ETA: Anyone who wants to be more “manly” should not be in any position of authority.

Excuses and weak justifications for unacceptable behavior are a tried and true derailment tactic for distracting people from the actual issue at hand.

Every time there’s a “good cop” who wants to be counted seperately from the bad apples, I want to ask how empowered they are to report on the behavior of one of those bad apples. Wearing the uniform has a very specific symboloc meaning, that you don’t get to pick and choose according to what day of the week it is.
