More than 200 women charged with pregnancy crimes since Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade

I keep thinking about how forced-birth advocates always were quick to reassure women that they wouldn’t be prosecuted for having an abortion. Such promises were always hollow - even in the absence of laws that directly criminalized women for having abortions, the laws would get warped to charge women anyways, and you have these kinds of prosecutions. Though even before the end of Roe v. Wade, this kind of shit happened all over the country (I recollect a woman in rural, conservative California being charged with this sort of “crime” a few years back), but infrequently and the charges usually didn’t stick. A door has definitely been opened wide for all sorts of newly invented “crimes” to be prosecuted.

Also, based on personal experience with my Trump-supporting aunt, it’s Republicans acknowledging that their party/Trump is totally fucked up, but trying to justify it. (Going hand-in-hand with “all politicians are corrupt” and “they’re all liars,” etc.) If they’re all the same, then there’s nothing wrong with supporting the criminal, rapist, compulsively lying, incompetent, fascist guy - it becomes just normal politics.
