NBA pulls 2017 All-Star Game from Charlotte over North Carolina's transgender bathroom law

Goes back beyond Latin to Indo-European.
Perhaps it’s worth noting that both the Greeks and the Persians had quite complex and fluid gender identities, though some of this was bound up with the status of women and slaves in their societies. In “progressive” Athens the public bathroom issue didn’t arise because women with any pretensions to social status rarely went out of doors - odd for a city whose tutelary deity was grey-eyed Athena. But other Greek societies have even left traces of matriarchy, such as the legends of the Amazons and of Artemis.
What Republicans need is not so much daylight as better education about the world outside the US.
