The vast majority of Americans live in urban areas. I never understood this contempt for urban Americans as somehow being less authentically American. They’re not the outliers.
Most of us aren’t loggers, lumberjacks, and construction workers. The two people I know who did lumberjacking of any kind are a lefty socialist professor and an Anarchist. Of all the people I’ve ever met who did construction, two were white guys and the rest were Hispanic. Somehow I suspect that Charlie Daniels didn’t have these people in mind when he was talking about them.
We need to aggressively destroy the myth of the “Real American.” We’re not gritty frontiersmen. That era is over. We industrialized. Live with it.
