(And I’m not defending Gawker here. What they did was irresponsible and wrong, and they deserved to get sued and lose.)
[/quote]Sort of - I think you might be thinking of the wrong thing he was getting revenge for. The whole “Gawker outed me!” spiel he gave was all bullshit, everybody in the valley knew, and not only was he contacted about the article(as is standard practice), he gave the thumbs up at the time, raised no objection. It just wasn’t often spoken about - which is exactly what the article was about, how Silicon valley was accepting of gay people, as long as you didn’t talk about it or or “act gay”, and how bullshit that was. And still is, considering exactly four-fifths of five-eighths of fuck all has changed in that regard.

What it was actually revenge for(and why he’s now going after techcrunch) is their reportage on his crashing and failing his hedge fund, Clarium capital, buy buying into Ron Paul’s sky-is-falling-any-minute-now hyperdeflation nonsense, and extremely embarrassingly managing to crash a giant hedge fund at a point in time where every other hedge fund was making money hand over fist.

Don’t buy into the fake moral high ground bullshit line - It was because the embarrassed him by reporting on him screwing up big time, which damaged his reputation as some sort of brilliant miracle investor.

As for their reportage on Hogan? They ran a grand total of nine heavily censored seconds of tape, basically to prove what they had was what they said they had. Tawdry titilation for clicks, sure, but hardly what it’s been played up to be - frankly, being a member of the media and having a working knowlege of broadcast standards, you can easily get away with worse, without even having to go to basic cable, provided it’s not being played with Dora the Explorer on the other side. Especially since magazine and other sites republished that after the story broke, and Hogan didn’t go after a single one of them. The majority of the reporting was all the awful things hogan also said on the tape, which might have damaged his career. There were also enormous problems with the case and how it was handled, but that’s a discussion for a different time, since this is a thread about Right-wing vampire Thiel, not his shitty puppets.
