Betcha didn’t know that Mennonites have their own version of the Onion. This particular article tickled my fancy, because I go through Elkhart county a lot, and yes, I own not one but two cornhole games:

In the States, there was a confusion between “Deutsch” and “Dutch” in the early years, so for example the “Pennsylvania Dutch” in fact have German heritage, like most Amish and Mennonites.

She was the person who really first brought back the Native Americans as central actors in academic scholarship. Recipient of a MacArthur “genius” grant; nominated by Pres. Obama and confirmed by the US Senate to the National Council on the Humanities.

A Prominent Scholar Was Fired. Neither She Nor Her Institution Will Say Exactly Why.

The University of Colorado at Boulder is under fire for ousting a prominent scholar whose supporters accuse the institution of a lack of transparency. An investigative report, released through a public-records request, has drawn speculation about the reasons for her firing.

But neither side will say exactly what happened.

Patricia Nelson Limerick, who co-founded the university’s Center of the American West, was fired from her role as faculty director last month. All five of the center’s executive-committee members resigned in protest.
