One morning when I was a kid the quiet peace of our suburb well within the city limits was shattered by a next door neighbor firing his shotgun at doves on his driveway–his driveway, incidentally, that faced the backyard of another neighbor.
Why were there doves on his driveway? Probably because he was sprinkling it with corn.
That wasn’t the first time he fired one of his guns either. My parents declined to call the cops because, really, how long would they hold him and where else was he gonna go when he got out? The experience left me with the feeling that there are some people who should be actively prevented from ever having firearms.
