In the old days, I remember such a thing as a “General Delivery” address, which meant that the Post Office would hold your mail for you to claim it on demand.

but from my experience of nomadic living it is not the simple lack of a house that is difficult. That can be surprisingly easy to adjust to. The problematic aspects are usually bureaucracy which exists to deliberately make nomadic living difficult.

I was between houses for a few months recently, either traveling or crashing with relatives. I thought I’d have my mail forwarded to a PO box. Little did I know that “in this post 9-11 world” you can’t get a PO box without proof of address. I love hoe it’s still always “9-11” that’s the excuse for why we’re a nation of authoritarians enabled by cowards even almost 20 years later.
