Oregonians to vote on whether to end constitutional ban on duels between public officials

I’m hoping for something a little more CZW:smiling_imp:

Jokes aside, what the fuck does this kind of provision in a constitution?

My question: Is this the worst old law in Oregon that needs to be removed, or are there other, more arcane and problematic laws than this one? I don’t see why a “no dueling” law takes priority over stuff like, “All fried chicken consumed here must be eaten by hand”*.

*An actual law still on the books.

Because the former is a silly law, and the latter is simply enforcing the correct way of eating fried chicken.

Daguerreotypes or it didn’t happen.

I would disagree. Burr attempted treason against the US during the lifetime of Hamilton… while Hamilton called him out on, which precipitated the duel. He still forged ahead on his treasonous plans after Hamilton’s death and was busted.

I would say Burr is, in fact, a huge fucking ass when compared to Hamilton.

I foresee a changedotorg style dueling petition site in our future

I’m not talking about Burr. I’m talking about all the shitty things Hamilton did in his life to get political power and wealth.

Hamilton is hardly an outlier even among his contemporaries, though i’m not giving him a pass on his own actions. His own hubris would’ve caught up with him sooner or later, though dying in a duel seems oddly befitting of the kind of life he led and decisions he made.
