I love that question.
The national DSA or one of the more organized regional commiittees might consider targeting one or three local campaigns in conservative “stronghold” areas suffering from a screwed up local practice.
I nominate the Central Valley in California. There’s a portfolio of issues there that could resonate loudly and relevantly in the rest of the country if resolved. Follow the Mississippi Summer model.
For example, Kern County was profiled in The Guardian as the worst county in the U.S. for officer shootings. It’s a very conservative county and disproportionately governed by Anglos though the majority of the population there is Latino. Rep. Kevin McCarthy is from Bakersfield in Kern County.
Why not schedule a summer DSA voter registration drive in Kern County en Espanol on the issue of officer shootings? Bring student and volunteer interns from all over the country.
Recruit local bilingual DSA candidates to contest every key local office relevant to police oversight. Campaign until Bakersfield runs out of racist policies to inspire new recruits and votes.
Online, communities could (digitally) nominate their proposed local campaigns. At a conference, check the budget and consensus, pick one, recruit, train, launch, implement, report, evaluate … then start over.
As long as evangelicals stay bossy and corporations stay greedy, there’s free recruiting.
