The film is a lot of fun, and after seeing it I picked up his first book. It’s mostly a diary, and quite engaging.
My favorite part is about how, as he was planning to make the move to the bush, he decided on what he would bring with him. He knew he would need an axe, but to conserve weight he decided to bring only an axe head, and not a handle, knowing that he could make a handle using just the head and wood he would scavenge. That’s a man that knows how to make things, and is confident in his skills.
