Right even the final shooting script for the first one was pretty wonky. But he had actors who refused to read the worst of it on camera, ad libbed better lines, other directors and writers involved, and editors who smoothed out the worst of it. The biggest problem with the prequels was the lack of other input. He wrote them entirely himself, directed them with zero input, disallowed actors from making changes, and generally had noone to tell him “no” or tweak what he was putting out there. Guys a fine producer and idea man, but he was never particularly accomplished at executing things. Once he stopped bringing in people who were good or great at execution it all got pretty weird.
