It’s interesting that ROTJ happened while he was going through a divorce and caring for his kids full-time; from most things I’ve read, he was rarely on set and the things he insisted on or invented (like the Ewoks) often came out of his focus on merchandise sales rather than wanting to tell a story like the Flash Gordon serials he loved as a kid.
