Could “Irishize” names; O’Shaughnevsky". That might put assassins off the trail. This (sort of) actually happened to the father of a friend of mine who deserted the Russian army after WWII. Came to Canada and told the immigration people his name, say; “Tolstoy” for example, and they said “Bolshoi?” and he said “… Sure … Bolshoi it is!”
