As well as the Discordian and Sub Genius people who originally started it here in the US.
IIRC there was a split between two key founders. On the one side a guy who wanted to keep it a friendly, weird, art March criticizing Christmas. And the other guy who wanted to license bar crawls, sell merch etc. There were law suits. The name was changed several times. Most of the original organizers left.
And now we have a branded bar crawl dedicated to bringing New Jersey to the rest of the nation.
