Using the Instagram handle “princedubai_07” when he was pretending to be Saudi ought to have raised suspicions, since Dubai is in an entirely different country.

That might be a way for the scammer to select for the gullible. Someone who actually knows that will likely be more resistant to the scam in the first place.
