The character is Mason Verger, a wealthy and powerful sadist whose family fortune was built on raising swine. His hobbies include breeding aggressive pigs with the idea of feeding people to them. Following a “therapy” session, Dr. Lecter plies him with drugs and convinces him to cut off his own face and feed it to hungry dogs. Lecter then breaks his neck leaving him horribly disfigured and paralyzed.
