Yep. They played with the timeline from the novels a bit. For example, in the novel and the Hannibal movie Verger bred the terror-pigs as part of a years-long revenge plot to have Lecter eaten alive. In the TV series Verger had already bred them as a hobby project before he ever met Lecter.
