Good journalism and social science research are invaluable, for an accurate and nuanced understanding of our real circumstances.
But this piece, and pretty much every article and study of social, ecological, economic, and political issues that I have seen, keeps coming back to the same central problem: the massive and escalating concentration of wealth in a tiny minority and the immiseration of the majority. We need mass social movements and an effective radical left; yet no one can seem to work out how to get there from our decades-long malaise.
