He could just as well have erased this incident by issuing a public apology. You can see that a lot with “cancel culture” incidents – someone famous say uses a slur, but they say they shouldn’t have, and the public might roll their eyes but generally gives them a chance to do better. So obviously he’s less worried about his reputation than his right to be a smarmy racist dick without consequence.
