I recall distinctly thinking, as a young punk, how great the Ramones’ version of this song was. Upon finding out it was a cover I thought it would be amusing to hear the tame original to further appreciate the punkification of the song (shut up, that’s a word). I can still feel my jaw dropping as I realized there were punks before the punks.
And I had an onion tied to my belt, which was the style at the time.
