Yes to all this, more or less exactly as you wrote it. During my grad-school days a fellow student friend regaled me with tales of sitting next to her on a flight, and having the most human connection, and it made me so happy just to hear about her years after I kinda checked out from the strip. 
I feel like I grew up down the block from that family in some ways.
