Yeah, I can see that, resigning to end the ethics investigation. I remembered it differently, and should have familiarized myself with how it all happened before posting. I remembered him issuing apologies and seemingly feeling remorseful about his actions, but I just looked at his wikipedia page and it said he later regretted resigning and wanted to run for public office again. 
That said, at least the party believed in accountability in his case. And has been more consistent with that than the GOP.
