I’m reminded of an explanation I heard for why ridiculous email scams work - the idea is that the more ridiculous they are, the more they filter out the less gullible. Leaving only the most gullible people actually falling for it which is exactly who they want. Most people know BS when they see it. The people that don’t know BS when they see it are just the kind of suckers they want!
