The do-not-call list is free.

And only modestly effective. All the scummy ripoff Indian call entres ignore it. Additionally there’s a loophole in it where electioneering calls are explicitly allowed, as are calls from companies that you “have an existing business relationship with”, as are charity calls.

As an aside, I always feel sorry for anyone with an Indian accent whose work involves phoning peole, because we’ve all been trained to be angry at the first few words from an accented stranger on the phone. Must suck to be working for the local council and be phoning about cat registration, only to mistaken for the enemy.
