Tourists in Arizona say they found a "magnetic portal" — but are actually flirting with death (video)

Oh, very same, w/the addition of Everything Merges With the Night and On Some Faraway Beach.

I was referring to the white pixels in the Co-60 picture, not the lightning video.

I know that. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

That time I climbed out the observatory dome slit, heard the sizzling noises from every sharp point, smelled the ozone, and climbed right back down and closed the dome.

Thankfully, no. I think I’d have just swum for shore, leaving my kayak to fend for itself at that point.

Yeah, I sent it to my buddy who works in nuclear. He sez:

“The radiation trefoil is upside down.”

and

“That person’s brain would malfunction before they could take that photo.“

I would love to have one, though. I’d put it on a shelf in a conspicuous location and see who grabs it.

AksHuaLLy the specification says it should be displayed with one blade pointed downward.

Some Americium-241 sources I used in a past life had the trefoil upside down if you saw it loose on a bench, but would be right way up when installed in the hardware.

You were in the same Boy Scout Troop as David Hahn?

Not sure what you mean. Isn’t that the opposite of what’s shown?

That makes sense. Do you think that this is a replica of some sort of delivery or transportation canister a la Windscale’s insane rod push-through system?

Yes, by the looks of it.
Not sure if this is supposed to be the version before or after they trimmed the fins to speed up things.

ETA:
Leaning towards the trimmed version.

I’ve been fascinated with nuclear my whole life (well, terrified is more the truth). The early years especially were just riddled with incompetence, carelessness and a complete disregard for the impact they were having. But the trimming of the cooling fins at Windscale has got to be one of the most insanely idiotic things I’ve ever heard. All in the service of creating a fucking bomb. “Special relationship”, indeed.

Windscale is the perfect example of how close sheer brilliance and outright insanity can be.
